While most people are into visiting beautiful and lively places, there are certain people who are adventure seekers and love to discover mysterious places. There are a significant number of people who do not take a step back when it comes to visit and encounter places famous for paranormal activities. The places may either be abandoned forts, deserted villages, closed mines and spooky hotels or unlikely places such as courtrooms and schools.

1. Dow Hill, Kurseong, West Bengal

It is believed that the Victoria Boy’s High School and Dow Hill Girl’s Boarding School situated in Kurseong, Darjeeling district of West Bengal are home to many spirits. Often footsteps can be heard echoing through the hallways of the schools. Notably, there have been countless bodies found in the dense forest surrounding the schools. There were also reports by several locals and tourists that they were being followed by a headless boy who vanishes into the woods.

2. Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan

Certainly, one of the most haunted and eeriest place one could imagine is the Bhangarh Fort. It is located in the Alwar region. The uninhabited town of Bhangarh is considered to be extremely daunting. So much so that even the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has legally prohibited anyone from entering the premises Bhangarh Fort after dusk.

For those curious about the age old history of the fort, the legend goes back to 16th century, when a man named Singhia fell in love with Ratnavati, the beautiful princess of Bhangarh. Despite knowing that it was a hopeless match, the man who was a tantrik decided to use his magic to seduce the girl.

However, his plans failed as the princess uncovered his plans and sentenced him to death. Before his death, he had cursed the palace to doom and the town to be roofless and miserable forever. According to locals, it is believed that anyone who enters the fort after dark will not make it back.

3. Dumas Beach, Gujarat

One of the most mysterious beach of India, it is situated on the coast of Arabian sea. The black sands of Dumas Beach in Gujarat are often associated with mysterious activities over the years. Earlier, the beach was used as a Hindu burial ground. It is believed that the restless spirits residing on the beach call out to visitors who are taking midnight strolls and walking towards the sea to return back to the shore. Reportedly, those who do not pay heed to the voices of the dead often disappear into the water forever.

4. Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

Rajasthan is surely a state full of legends and mysteries. One such place is the Kuldhara village. It is located near Jaisalmer and was originally inhabited by Paliwal Brahmins. The legend says that villagers of Kuldhara accompanied by 83 other nearby villages disappeared mysteriously back in 1825. The was no trace of their whereabouts. The age old history of the village says that the minister of state fell in love with a girl from the village. He threatened the villagers to impose heavy taxes if they did not agree to their marriage. In order to protect the honour and dignity of the girl, it was chief of Kuldhara and surrounding areas decided to abandon their villages. While leaving they cursed the land to remain unoccupied for eternity.

5. Agrasen ki Baoli, New Delhi

One of the most ancient monument of India, intricately built, the ancient place is situated in the national capital Delhi. It is an architectural masterpiece and is protected by the ASI. However, it is believed by the locals that the palace is haunted by ghosts. It is said that satanic demons often lurk in the shadows and follow visitors around. There have been complaints by tourists about feeling an uncanny dread once they step inside the palace.

6. Jatinga Village, Assam

Jatinga is a tiny village located in Assam. It has a population of 2,500. The village has one of the most enigmatic phenomena in the world – namely recurring mass bird suicides. Since centuries, local and migratory birds fall on to the ground in large numbers. The event takes place on moonless nights of September and October but only in a specific area. The scientists are also puzzled as they can’t find any reasonable justification for birds dropping dead from the sky in such a pattern.

7. Lambi Dehar Mines, Mussoorie

Lambi Dehar Mines are situated in Mussoorie. Once it was a fully operational lime mine employing thousands of workers. However, now it has been abandoned and is considered to be one of the most scariest places in India. Reportedly, as a result of hazardous working conditions, lack of safety regulations and accidents – numerous workers had died in the mines. It is said that the dead miners haunt the tunnels. Often, there are strange voices and screams coming from the mines.
