Virat Kohli is just 68 runs away from becoming the first T20I batter to reach 4000 runs, as India take on Zimbabwe at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The match is a dead rubber, with India already qualifying for the semifinal spot. The former India skipper has been in tremendous form in the tournament, racking 220 runs and a single dismissal.

Virat Kohli already has the most runs in T20I cricket, scoring 3932 runs in 105 innings, hitting with a strike rate of 138.45. His average in the format is 53.13 and has 36 half centuries and a ton to his name.

Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Rishabh Pant came in Dinesh Kartik to feature in his first match of the tournament. “One change, Rishabh Pant plays instead of DK, he is the only guy who hasn’t played a single game on this tour including the warm-up games, we wanted to give him a game. Nothing changes, we need to do well as a team,” the Indian captain explained.

Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine said that he wanted to bowl first. He further added,”We were looking to bowl first. The ball might skid through in the evening under lights.”

Zimbabwe also made a few changes to their playing XI. “A couple of changes, Wellington and Munyonga are in, Milton has struggled a bit and we wanted to give Tony a chance. Luke Jongwe has an injury and we wanted the spin of Wellington Masakadza,” Ervine said.

The match is a dead rubber as India and Pakistan have already qualified from Group 2. However, if India lose against Zimbabwe, they will play New Zealand in the semifinals. If they register a win, India will face England in the next round.
