Who is Rishabh Pant?

Rishabh Pant was born
to Rajendra and Saroj Pant in Roorkee Uttarakhand and began travelling to the
Sonnet Cricket Academy in Delhi on the weekends to train under coach Tarak
Sinha. At an early age he was made to overhaul his batting technique, a move
which has turned out to be highly successful.

During the
U-19 World Cup he played an unbelievable innings of 75 runs in 24 balls against
Nepal, which was the fastest half century of the tournament. The strong display
was followed y a century against Nambia.

These
performances registered him on the radar of the Delhi Capitals (then Delhi
Daredevils) and he was drafted by the IPL giants.

He became a
consistent performer for Delhi in the domestic circuit, eventually being given
the responsibility of leading the team as the captain. His triple hundred
against Maharashtra is remembered till date along with a 48-ball century
against Jharkhand.

Pant’s
maiden IPL century came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 when he made 128
runs not out in 63 balls. It was the highest individual score by an Indian in
IPL history, a record which was broken by KL Rahul.

He received
a call up to the Indian team against England in a T20 International series in 2017. The
start of his international career was not a smooth one and he endured a
difficult patch of form. The Delhi captain was criticized for giving away his
wicket easily due to rash decision making.

Since then,
he has evolved into a mature player and has made himself a regular started for
the team in all formats.
