Chennai Super Kings score first points in IPL 2022, and in style

The Chennai Super Kings put up an all-round show against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Tuesday to score their first points of IPL 2022. Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube were the defending champions’ stars in their 23-run win.
Robin Uthappa and Shivam Dube joined hands in the first innings to put up a 165-run partnership – the highest this season – to boost CSK’s total to 216 runs. While the former scored 88 runs off 50 balls with the help of four boundaries and nine maximums, the latter played a 45-ball 95 runs hand, hitting five fours and eight sixes.

Chasing a mammoth 217-run target, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were restricted to 193/9 in 20 overs. For Faf du Plessis and co, Shahbaz Ahmed top-scored with 41 runs off 27 balls. Glenn Maxwell (26 off 11) and debutant Suyash Prabhudessai (34 off 18) also played handy knocks. Dinesh Karthik was dismissed in the IPL 2022 for the first time. The RCB wicketkeeper batsman made 34 runs off 14 balls before handing a catch to Chennai Super Kings’ skipper Ravindra Jadeja off Dwayne Bravos’s bowling.
For CSK, Maheesh Theekshana took four wickets for 34 runs while Ravindra Jadeja got three.

Invited to bat, Uthappa and Dube scored 156 runs in the last 10 overs to rally the innings after CSK was reeling at 36 for 2 in their 200th IPL match.
Wanindu Hasaranga picked two wickets and Josh Hazlewood took one for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
