All playing members of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team were seen wearing black bands on the field at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai during their match against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday.

The commentators announced that it was in show of solidarity towards their teammate, Harshal Patel, who lost his sister earlier this week and left the tournament bio-bubble to be with his family.

Harshal departed the bubble shortly after the game against the Mumbai Indians after learning about the family tragedy.

In recent seasons, Harshal has been RCB’s outstanding player, claiming two wickets in the team’s seven-wicket triumph over MI on Saturday night.

According to reports, he did not take the team bus back to Mumbai from Pune.

The 31-year-old has played eight T20Is since making his debut last year.

Patel grabbed 5 wickets (5-27) against the Mumbai Indians in the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s first match of the IPL 2021 on April 9, 2021. Harshal Patel became the first bowler in IPL history to take five wickets against the Mumbai Indians. This is his best IPL bowling figure, and he also became the first IPL player to take a 5-wicket haul against the Mumbai Indians. His five-wicket haul was also the third-best in the IPL by an uncapped Indian player.

Patel had 32 wickets towards the end of IPL 2021, making him the top Indian wicket-taker in a single season and tying him with Dwayne Bravo for the most in a single season.

Patel was purchased by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 IPL auction for Rs 10.75 crores.
