Faf du Plessis will be taking on his former IPL side Chennai Super Kings as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s captain at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on Tuesday.

Ahead of the game, the South African superstar took some time off to meet some of his ex-colleagues in the CSK camp. Du Plessis played a key role for the four-time champions in two stints (2012–2015, 2018 – 2021) over the last decade. The 37-year-old was not retained by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2022. They did bid for the Protea but lost him to the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7 crore.

Faf du Plessis has always been in the same team as MS Dhoni. The two were together at CSK from 2012 to 2015 before shifting base to the Rising Pune Supergiants for a couple seasons. They were back in yellow from 2018. This will be the first time the former Indian and South African captains will lock horns in the IPL.

On facing his former team, du Plessis said,”We’re obviously playing some nice cricket at the moment, so we’ve got a bit of form going into the match. But we also know that Chennai are a team that you can never write off.”

Chennai have not won a single game this season. They are placed at the bottom of the points table.

For RCB, who are on a three-match winning streak, Josh Hazlewood returned. The Aussie also played for CSK until last season.

“They’ve got some incredible cricketers there. So, it’s going to be a great game, and I’m looking forward to that. (Australian pacer Josh) Hazlewood has joined us, it’s nice for him as well; it’s his first game back, and he’s also playing against his old team,” Faf du Plessis added.
