Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s house was one of the 10 locations raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday, August 19. The raid was in connection with alleged irregularities in Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22, for which the Delhi Lt. Governor VK Saxena had recommended a CBI probe in July this year.

As the news of the CBI raid in Sisodia’s residence emerged on Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that the central government sent the CBI at the Deputy CM’s house on the day that state’s education model received praise in US newspaper The New York Times.

He also added that the CBI is welcome and that he will be extending full cooperation with the central agency regarding the investigation. Kejriwal said that this is not the first time a raid has taken place in the house of one of his ministers, but nothing will be found, like previous instances.

The Delhi CM also posted an image of the Thursday, August 18, international edition of The New York Times’ front page, where a story regarding the Education Model of Delhi was printed, along with a photo of Manish Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister of Kejriwal’s cabinet. Since Kejriwal’s tweet, Indians have become curious about what the NY Time story was about. Let’s find out.

The New York Times, one of the biggest newspapers in the United States, is known widely for its wide variety of national and international stories. Journalists working for the publication has won numerous awards in the past, including the Pulitzer award. On Thursday, it published a story about Delhi’s reformed ‘Education Model’, that has received widespread acclaim all across India.

The story was written by Emmy nominated journalist Karan Deep Singh, who is a reporter at The New York Times based in New Delhi. He primarily covers economy, politics and technology in South Asia. He has previously worked for the BBC and the Wall Street Journal in his career.

The story in The New York Times details how the reformed Delhi ‘Education Model’ has helped the state to establish one of the best education systems in the country.

Singh begins the story with a Delhi student, who used to be absent from school for weeks and months, whose classrooms were scorching in summer. He also detailed the classrooms more, describing the filthiness in it. However, Pradeep Paswan, the student Singh wrote about, is apparently eager to join school now where the toilets are clean.

Singh also talked more about Paswan’s school, which used to be called the ‘Red School’ before because of its uniforms. However, it has become one of the most sought after schools in the neighbourhood, where uniforms have been switched to ‘navy blue and lavender,’ as per the report.

It also talks about Manish Sisodia, who is the education minister of Delhi and his efforts that made the new Education Policy come to life.
