Twitter goes beserk as global internet outage shuts down major websites

  • Among the websites that faced the outage were CNN, New York Times, The Guardian and the British government website
  • The affected websites only displayed a message "Error 503 Service Unavilable"

A number of major websites around the world were down on Tuesday. Among the websites that faced the outage were CNN, Le Monde, New York Times, The Guardian, Reddit, Quora and the British government website – gov.uk. 

The affected websites only displayed a message “Error 503 Service Unavailable”.

According to Down Detector India, Amazon Web Services, Shopify, Git Hub, Twitch, Stackover, and others were also facing outages.

The outage could be linked with Fastly, a cloud computing service that serves a number of major news organisations and other companies on the internet, BBC reported. 

Fastly had said it was investigting problems with its content delivery network. The company posted an error message at around 11 am BST, saying they were “currently investigating potential impact to performance with our CDN services”.
