A Florida bride and her caterer have been detained on suspicion of poisoning a reception dinner with cannabis without the knowledge of their guests.

After numerous wedding guests felt unwell as a result of the laced food, Danya Svoboda, the 42-year-old bride, and Jocelyn Bryant, the 31-year-old owner of the catering firm, were charged with a supply of marijuana, culpable negligence, and tampering.

The charges were brought because the poisoned food made the wedding guests sick. Police were called to the wedding after a 41-year-old guest claimed there “were drugs within” him.

The bride and groom were questioned by police, and both denied authorising the caterers to put cannabis in the cuisine. However, another guest informed investigators that after feeling stoned, she asked the bride if cannabis was in the food and was told “yes” with a smile.

Guests’ symptoms were “consistent with those of someone who has used illegal narcotics,” according to first responders who treated them at the scene. Some of the visitors who were treated in the hospital had urine tests that showed they had consumed cannabis.

After eating, one of the guests, Jeffery Belmonte, told police he “felt odd, tingling, fidgety, and had acute dry mouth.” When he proceeded to ask Matthew Svoboda, the best man, what was going on, he found him “incoherent and unable to answer a question.”

The bodycam footage from Florida officers shows visitors being escorted away on stretchers. The bride was also seen grinning in the clips.

Food and glasses from the occasion were gathered and tested for illicit substances.

They also discovered food strewn on the lawn of a property adjacent to the clubhouse. When THC, the active element in cannabis, was tested on samples of bread and lasagna found in the bags, the findings came back positive.

According to court documents, Danya and Bryant were freed from Seminole County Jail after posting bail. Both of them will be arraigned in June.

In one of the recordings, a guy informs a Seminole County Sheriff’s deputy, “We’ve all been affected, somehow, by what was placed in the food.”

The officer said, “We’re trying to figure out who placed it in the food, whether it was a guest or the catering firm.”

As cops entered the clubhouse, bodycam footage shows caterers attempting to flee the event area and wheeling away from the laced food.

According to court filings, roughly 50 people attended the wedding celebration, with at least 18 of them feeling euphoric or sick afterwards.

Guests who took urine tests at the hospital were found to have consumed marijuana.
