Meena Harris, an established American lawyer and niece of newly-elected Vice-President of the US, took to Twitter on Wednesday to show her support for Indian farmers who are protesting against the new farm laws introduced last year.
The protest has been going on for 70 days at various locations along Delhi’s borders and took a violent turn on January 26 during a tractor rally by farmers.
Harris’ tweet comes a day after Hollywood celebrity Rihanna and rights activist Greta Thunberg expressed support for the agitating farmers.
Referring to last month’s siege on the Capitol in the US, Harris urged people to raise their voice against “India’s internet shutdowns and paramilitary violence against farmer protesters”.
