International pop
star, actor and entrepreneur Rihanna on Tuesday caused quite a stir on social
media as she came out in open support of the farmers protesting
at various Delhi borders against Centre’s newly enacted farm laws.

Sharing a CNN report on farmers’ protest, Rihanna in a twitter post asked people to engage in conversations around one of the most influential agitations. She also added the trending hashtag of the protest.

“Why aren’t we talking about this?” wrote the Global music sensation.

The news report shared by Rihanna touched upon the internet suspension around New Delhi following the violent clash between police and farmers.

The Twitter post by Rihanna,
who has around100 million followers on the micro-blogging site, garnered thousands of
retweets and likes within an hour.

Rihanna’s intervention in the ongoing farmer strike, however, didn’t go well with Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who immediately criticized musician’s statement.

Actor Swara Bhaskar on the other hand, lauded Diamond’ star’s remarks.

Thousands of farmers,
mainly from Punjab and Haryana, have been camping at several Delhi border
points since November  demanding nothing but the complete repeal of the three farm laws that they as a threat to farmers’ livelihood.

Meanwhile, farmer unions on
Monday announced a three-hour countrywide ‘chakka jam’ on February 6 to express their opposition against the internet suspension in New Delhi.
