The New Orleans Saints paired their alternate black helmets with white color rush jerseys for the Monday Night Football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Watch:

2022 American League MVP and currently the most sought-after free agent in Major League Baseball, Aaron Judge was present at the Raymond James Stadium to watch the two teams play. He wore a Number-13 Mike Evans jersey.

The helmets have the Saints’ primary logo on both sides, and a gold fleur-de-lis pattern down the center. They copied Seattle Seahawks feather on the helmets.

The only other time the Saints wore black helmets were for a 1969 preseason game. These helmets had a traditional striping pattern.

Pass-rusher Cameron Jordan who had earlier campaigned for an all-black look said in June: “I think the black helmets when swagged out properly could be a fire fit. I also was hoping that we’d be black on black, but that’s cool. I like the idea that we have a black helmet. I will push forward and say I want a gold uniform. Just throwing that out there for the thousandth time.”

The helmets were paired with the team’s all-white Color Rush set, which has been worn every season since 2016.

Earlier, the NFL had changed its rule that used to prohibit teams from using multiple helmets. The rule was put in place due to safety concerns.

“I think this is an idea that’s kind of been in the making for a while. And it’s kind of a league initiative,” Saints coach Dennis Allen said after the helmet was revealed in June. “I don’t get really too in depth and involved on that. But I thought it was kind of cool-looking, so I was like, ‘All right, let’s do it.'”
