Packers RB Aaron Jones chain holding his fathers ashes lost in end zone

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones led his team in their home-opener victory against the Detroit Lions 35-17 on Monday Night Football, scoring four touchdowns.

In his post-game interview, Jones revealed while scoring one of the four touchdowns his neck chain containing the ashes of his late father fell off in the end zone.

“He was really on my heart. Actually, I have a chain with a football and his ashes are in it. I scored and it fell off in the end zone,” Jones said of his late father, Alvin Jones, who died from COVID-19 complications in April.

“I have to go look for it, but I know he would be happy. He would say, ‘if you lose it anywhere, lose it in the end zone.'”

Jones’ tribute for his father came in a contest which was his second career four touchdown game.

Aaron Jones’ performance against the Detroit Lions tied him for the most single game TDs from scrimmage for the Packers dating back to the franchise’s move to Lambeau Field in 1957.

The Packers’ running back also became the first player to record four touchdowns on Monday Night Football since Marshall Faulk did it against the Buccaneers in 2000.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur reflected on his team’s strategy going into the game against Detroit Lions that converted into a dominating win.

“Tonight we needed to get the ball to our play-makers. That is Davante Adams, that is Aaron Jones, that is Bobby Tonyan…and we still had some opportunities for MVS that we didn’t quite hit on. So I know there’s more out there,” he said.

Teammate Aaron Rodgers also had nothing but good things to say Aaron Jones, both as a player and as a person.

“He’s a special player, but he’s really just a great person.” 

Jones scored a four-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter followed by a one-yard touchdown catch in the second and an 11-yard touchdown catch in the third. His fourth touchdown of the game came on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Jones finished the game with 17 carries for 67 yards and six catches for 48 yards.
