Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, 60, the coach of the Mexican national football team, revealed to Fox Soccer that his contract was terminated after the match against Saudi Arabia, which saw the El Tri going out of the FIFA World Cup in the group stage despite a win. This was the first time since 1978 that Mexico have been eliminated from the World Cup group stage.

Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino is an Argentine football coach. He was born in Rosario, which is also the hometown of Lionel Messi and Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara, on November 20, 1962.

In his footballing career, Martino played for Newell’s Old Boys, Tenerife, Lanus, O’Higgins, and Barcelona. He made one appearance for the Argentine national team.

Martino’s contract with Mexico was for four years, with the total salary being reportedly $8.8 million. He had joined the side as head coach on January 7, 2019.
