Erling Haaland completes Man City medical, $63 million deal to be done soon
- Erling Haaland is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester City
- He has reportedly agreed to personal terms and passed the medical
- A final deal will be signed in the next few hours
While the Athletic's David Ornstein had reported earlier in the day that City had agreed personal terms with Haaland, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano later on Monday confirmed that the striker had undergone and successfully completed his medical at Manchester, with a deal likely to be finalized in the coming hours.
While the release clause on Haaland's contract is €75 million ($79.2 million), City are tipped to secure the striker's services for a slightly lower fee of €60 million ($63 million).
"Man City told BVB board that they will activate release clause [closer to €60m than €75m] in few hours," Romano wrote, commenting on the finances required for the transfer.
That being said, even if City do end up paying the full release clause, it will still be a steal, with Transfermarkt putting the striker's market value close to €160 million.
With City poised to lift the Premier League title this season, Haaland's signing will come as a massive boost for the serial champions, who, in spectacular fashion, managed two extraordinary seasons without a traditional number 9.
The 21-year-old Norwegian's addition to Pep Guardiola's side is only expected to make an impeccable completely unplayable.
Haaland's prowess as a traditional number 9 is common knowledge by now, with the forward having netted a mind-boggling 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund since joining the Bundesliga side in January 2020.
