Following his death from colon cancer, voice actor Billy Kametz has received numerous heartfelt tributes on social media.

The actor, 35, was a popular name in the anime and video gaming industries. Kametz won Best Voice Actor Performance (English) at the 4th Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2019 for his work as Naofumi Iwatani in The Rising of the Shield Hero. He also provided voices for characters in Attack on Titan, Boruto, Demon Slayer, Josuke Higashkata in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Ren in Pokémon Journeys, and Shigeru Aoba in Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Kametz grew up in Pennsylvania and got his start with Disney as a member of the entertainment department of the Disney cruise company. He eventually relocated to California after being cast as Aladdin in Disneyland’s Musical Spectacular.

Following his diagnosis, he stated earlier this year that he would be taking a sabbatical from acting and returning to his hometown of Hershey, Pennsylvania. Fans contributed to a GoFundMe campaign to assist with his medical expenses. He passed away on June 9th.

The GoFundMe campaign said that the funds raised will be used for travel, insurance charges, medical expenditures not fully covered, and daily living expenses. As of this writing, the campaign had raised $175,126 of the $150,000 target. The campaign’s administrators noted that the effort will end on June 14 and that any funds raised that haven’t already been utilised for Kametz’s treatments will go toward his celebration of life and funeral. On June 15, the actor’s family will hold a viewing, followed by a funeral on June 18.
