Musician Carly Simon’s sisters, Lucy and Joanna, died just one day apart after battling cancer.

Joanna, the oldest of the sisters who was known as an opera singer, died of thyroid cancer at 85 on Wednesday. Lucy, who was a composer on Broadway, died of metastatic breast cancer at the age of 82 on Thursday.

According to reports, Joanna died in a Manhattan hospital while Lucy died at her home in Piedmont, New York.

Lucy and Carly started their careers in music as the folk singing duo The Simon Sisters. They released the song Wynken, Blynken & Nod, which charted at No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964. They released other hits including “Anticipation,” “You’re So Vain” and “That’s The Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be,” among many others.

After moving to Broadway, Lucy was nominated for a Tony award in Original Score for her work on the long-running musical “The Secret Garden.” Lucy won a Grammy with her husband David Levine in Best Recording for Children for In Harmony, winning the award again in 1983 for the album’s sequel.

Joanna made her New York City Opera debut in 1962. She travelled the world and performed in the New York and Vienna Philharmonics. After stepping into journalism, Joanna earned an Emmy in 1991 for her PBS report on bipolar disorder and creativity.

Joanna was romantically involved with legendary newsman Walter Cronkite after both of their spouses died within months of each other in 2005. Joanna and Cronkite were together from 2005 until his death in 2009.

Carly is now the only surviving Simon sibling. Her brother, who was a famous photographer Peter Simon, died in 2018 of cardiac arrest. At the time, he too was battling cancer.
