Filming of the fourth Matrix film is under way in Germany as actor Keanu Reeves returns as ‘Neo’, the franchise’s lead. The film, which had stopped its production in March due to the coronavirus pandemic becomes the latest to join a list of productions resuming work in Hollywood.
Regarding the filming, Reeves, who was last seen in ‘Bill and Ted’ told Associated Press, “It’s great. It’s an honor to be working. I’m in Berlin, you can hear the sirens. You know, there’s some really thoughtful, effective protocols in place. The rhythm of film-making has been not really impacted or interrupted.”
He added, “We’re scrappy. We know how to get stuff done. We’re inventive. We think on our feet. And, you know, that kind of spirit, kindred spirit of just coming together.”
The fourth installment of one of the best sci-fi films will be a solo project for Lana Wachowski who wrote the previous three installments with her sister Lilly Wachowski.
Reeves said, “You know, it goes back to like, ‘Let’s put on a show! We’ll get some props, we’ve got some things, we’re going to write!’ And that spirit is definitely alive and well on The Matrix.”
Apart from Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise her role as Trinity in the film while Jada Pinkett Smith returns as Niobe. Actors Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra and ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Frozen’ fame Jonathan Groff will also join the cast.
The film is set to be released in 2022, 20 years since its last outing.
