Angela Thorne, 84, died of natural causes, according to her family. Thorne was well known for her role as Marjory Frobisher in the BBC’s To The Manor Born, which she portrayed from 1979 to 2007.

Thorne married Peter Penry-Jones, a prominent television performer from Cardiff, in 1967. They appeared in several To The Manor Born episodes together.

Who was Peter Penry-Jones?

Peter David Penry Jones, born 20 May 1938 in Cardiff, was a Welsh actor.

Penry-Jones is the son of the Rev. David Penry Jones, a Presbyterian minister in South Wales. Penry-Jones married sitcom actress Angela Thorne in 1967.

Thorne has had a long and successful career in show business.

She is most known for co-starring with Penelope Keith in the television series “To the Manor Born” (1979-1981) as Margaret Thatcher’s sister, Muriel. Thorne’s portrayal of the colorful and witty Muriel won her fans and became one of her most memorable roles.

Angela Thorne has appeared in several television shows, including The Bounder, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, and EastEnders, in addition to To the Manor Born. She’s also appeared in movies including Brassed Off and Gosford Park.

Thorne has also had a great theatre career, appearing in various productions of works by William Shakespeare and other prominent playwrights.

Rupert and Laurence were the couple’s two sons. Thorne and Penry- Jones appeared together in episodes of To The Manor Born episodes until Peter tragically passed away in 2009 following a protracted fight with intestinal cancer.

Thorne died at the age of 84 in 2023.

Her death was described as “peacefully at home” by her relatives.

“She was the beloved wife of Peter Penry-Jones, and is survived by her two sons Rupert and Laurie Penry Jones, and her grandchildren, Florence, Peter, Giorgio, and Delilah,” Rupert said in a statement.

“We will all miss her very much,” he added.
