India recorded 132,788 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the tally to 2,83,07,832, the Union Health Ministry’s data released on Wednesday showed. As many as 3,207 patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the toll to reach 335,102.

There are 1, 793, 645 active cases in the country, while 26, 179,085 have recovered so far.

As many as 35,00,57,330 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus till June 1. This includes  20,19,773 samples tested on Tuesday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.

India started the mass vaccination drive against coronavirus on January 16. As per the latest count, 21,85,46,667 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The country is battling a second wave of COVID-19 since April. Hundreds of thousands of people got infected daily, thousands died and the healthcare system was brought to a breaking point. 

Meanwhile, the health ministry has said that there was no evidence to support the theory of third wave affecting children.

According to AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria, the virus enters the body through ace receptors – a particular variety of protein – are far less in children’s bodies than in adults’.
