India’s COVID-19 tally on Monday reached 1,13,85,339 with 26,291 new cases of coronavirus recorded in the past 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s latest data. This is the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases this year. A total of 118 deaths were registered on Sunday. The total number of coronavirus-induced deaths has now reached 1,58,725.
According to the health ministry’s data, there are 2,19,262 active COVID-19 cases in the country, while 1,10,07,352 have recovered.
A total of 22,74,07,413 samples were tested for COVID-19 up to March 14, 2021. Of these, a total of 7,03,772 samples were tested yesterday.
According to the ministry, more than 29 million vaccine shots have been administered in the country till Saturday.
India has emerged as the second worst-hit country by the virus, the first being the United States.
Maharashtra recorded this year’s highest one-day spike of 16,620 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, which pushed its overall caseload to 23,14,413, while 50 deaths pushed the toll to 52,861, the state health department said.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.
