Odalis Santos Mena, a 23-year-old Mexican influencer, has died following a botched medical procedure to treat excessive underarm sweating. The fitness influencer allegedly underwent the procedure at an unlicensed medical practice on July 7. Shortly after, she suffered a massive heart attack and died.
Local reports stated that the procedure was carried out by “non-professionals.” She was reportedly given anesthesia by an employee who had no prior experience or training as an anesthetist. She suffered a heart attack at the clinic, with employees scrambling to save her by performing CPR. However, she couldn’t be saved, New York Post reported.

An investigation was launched by local authorities. Coroners believe Mena died due to a combination of the anesthesia and the steroid medication she was on. Meanwhile, the clinic told the authorities that they were not aware of the woman’s medication before agreeing to the procedure.
Mena was popular on social media with over146K followers on Instagram. She used to frequently take part in fitness competitions.
Prior to her death, Mena had promote MiraDry, a permanent sweat reduction treatment, on social media with assurances that it was safe and effective.
She was reportedly studying for an undergraduate university degree in nutrition.

Her death sent shockwaves across social media with her followers and friend offering condolences and paying tributes.
Victor Gomez Carreno, who Mena was reportedly dating, took to Inatagram to offer condolences.
“Your actions in life, echo in eternity. I will take you with me forever short, it makes no sense to write here what I feel in my heart @odalis_sm, I love you,” he wrote.
Mena’s best friend, Karen Herrera, also mourned her loss.
“Osi, my scolding companion, cardio, school, work, cinema, Arabic lemonade without sugar and everything! I can’t tell you anything that I haven’t told you before, we’ll always be family,” she wrote on social media.
