Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with US President Joe Biden on Monday. After the talks, Modi tweeted about his ‘fruitful conversation’ with Biden and said they discussed the evolving COVID-19 situation in both countries in detail.
“Had a fruitful conversation with US President Biden. We discussed the evolving COVID situation in both countries in detail. I thanked President Biden for the support being provided by the United States to India,” he said.
“My discussion with @POTUS@JoeBiden also underscored the importance of smooth and efficient supply chains of vaccine raw materials and medicines. India-US healthcare partnership can address the global challenge of COVID-19,” he added.
White House also released a statement after the phone call that read, “United States and India will work closely together in the fight against COVID19… In response, the United States is providing a range of emergency assistance, including oxygen-related supplies, vaccine materials and therapeutics.”
The US president and his Vice President Kamala Harris have assured India and its people of providing all assistance, including urgently sending necessary medical life-saving supplies and equipment, to help the country combat the deadly coronavirus crisis.

According to ANI, Biden affirmed that the US was determined to support India’s efforts by quickly deploying resources such as therapeutics and ventilators. The Biden administration has also identified sources of raw materials, which will be made available for the production of the Covishield vaccine.
Meanwhile, Modi conveyed to the US President his heartfelt appreciation for the offer of assistance and support from the US government. He mentioned India’s commitment to contain the COVID globally through Vaccine Maitri, and its participation in COVAX and the Quad Vaccine Initiatives.

Underlining the potential of the India-US partnership in vaccine development, Modi and Biden have directed their respective officials to maintain close coordination and cooperation in their efforts in this domain, reported ANI.
The two leaders have agreed to remain in regular touch.
