International Nurses Day is celebrated on May 12 every year to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. It was first celebrated in 1965 by the International Council of Nurse (ICN) to honour the nurse and their contribution towards healthcare.

Florence Nightingale rose to fame when she started working as a nurse and helped the wounded British and allied soldiers during the Crimean War. She is also known as the Lady of the Lamp, who spent most of the time taking care of the soldiers. She was the first person to organise nurses and professionally train them in the healthcare sector.
