Two people were arrested after being accused of dropping objectionable items into an offering box in a temple in Karnataka’s Mangaluru.

The two accused had earlier confessed to the charges to the Koragajja Katte priest and were handed over to the police after surrendering to shrine authorities, PTI reported quoting sources.
The temple authorities had called them during the ‘Nemotsava’ festival (performance of ‘Bhoota Kola’, a spirit worship), where they confessed, Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said.

He said that one of their friends had died due to health issues recently. Later, one of the two also developed health problems, and fearing the wrath of the ‘Daiva’ – what the temple deity Koragajja is called in the Tulunadu region – they surrendered.
The police investigation has so far concluded that the accused have committed similar acts in at least three other places, the commissioner said, adding that the probe will continue.
