Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre
Russell picked up five wickets against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday.
While scoring just five runs in the first match, Russell made his comeback in a big way, palying a key role in restricting Mumbai Indians to a total score of 152 runs.
Russell sent back almost the entire MI middle
and lower order, dismissing Kieron
Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Marco Jansen, Rahul Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah.
This also accounted for the best bowling figures by a KKR bowler so far in the Indian Premier League.
Significantly, the 5/15 spell by Russell was done in a span of a mere two overs.
Introduced in the 18th over of the match, Russell picked up both Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen, before dismissing Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah in the final over.
Alongside this performance, KKR also became the first team to bowl out Mumbai Indians since 2018.
5/15 is currently the best bowling figure against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 as well, with Russell today surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel’s 5/27 bowling figure from the previous match.
