Phillip Joel Hughes, who was also known as Australia’s ‘the next big thing’ lost his life after being hit by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the SCG on 25th November 2014.

The 25-year-old sportsman missed an attempted hook shot at the match between South Australia and New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The young cricketer was hit by a bouncer despite wearing a helmet as the ball hit the unprotected part of his body. As soon as the ball hit him, he collapsed and had to undergo surgery but unfortunately, he could not survive the deadly bouncer and succumbed to his injuries.

Hughes suffered a rare cerebrovascular injury and passed away merely 2 days after being admitted to the hospital.

The world observed the sixth death anniversary of the cricketer and Indian and Australian cricketers paid a 63-second tribute to the batsman at the SCG. The 63-second tribute was given to the batsman because he was not-out at 63 runs when the ball hit him, taking his life.

The two teams were seen donning black armbands in the honour of the late cricketer who passed away so early.

#63notout started trending on Twitter to remember the late batsman

Several cricketers including Bruce Wayne Michael Clarke and Steve Smith took to twitter to offer their condolences.

Steve Smith tweeted,”Miss you bruz. Forever in our hearts! #63notout.”

While Michael Clarke shared a photo of him with Hughes on his social media captioning, “I’m still wearing our cap bro. Miss ya everyday.”

It was an unfortunate loss for the his family, Australia as well as the world and the late cricketer was remembered on 25th November.
