Singer and composer Bappi Lahiri died at the age of 69 in a hospital in Mumbai. His doctor told PTI that the music legend died just after midnight at CritiCare hospital in Juhu owing to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea). In April 2021, the veteran vocalist was diagnosed with COVID-19 and placed on complete bed rest. Bappi Lahiri’s most recent collaboration was with Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor in the song ‘Bhankas’ from ‘Baaghi 3.’

‘Bhankas’ is a remixed rendition of Bappi Lahiri’s song ‘Ek Aankh Maru Toh’ from the 1984 film ‘Tohfa.’ Tanishq Bagchi created the new version of the song, which features Bappi da, Dev Negi, and Jonita Gandhi. Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle sang the original song. Tiger and Shraddha were seen showing off some tapori dancing moves in the high-energy video.

Bappi Lahiri was undergoing treatment for a variety of ailments. He was taken to the hospital when his condition deteriorated on Tuesday night, and doctors attempted but failed to resuscitate him.

The singer-composer, who was recognised for his songs in various films of the late 1970s and 1980s, was a recognisable face for many with his signature gold chains that he wore for good luck and his sunglasses. ‘Chalte Chalte,’ ‘Disco Dancer,’ and ‘Sharaabi’ were among them.

According to IMDB, Lahiri has created over 5,000 songs for over 500 films in a career spanning more than five decades. He was dubbed the ‘Disco King of Bollywood’ because he performed some of the most memorable disco tracks, particularly with actor Mithun Chakroborty.

The music score for the 1973 film ‘Nanha Shikari’ marked the beginning of the music legend’s career. Bappi Lahiri disclosed last year that he made his Bollywood debut as an actor in the Kishore Kumar film ‘Badhti Ka Naam Dadhi.’
