US President Donald Trump emerged
as the most-tweeted-about person on Twitter for the year 2020, according to the
micro-blogging site’s annual year-end review, ANI reported.
Grabbing the second position is
US President-Elect Joe Biden.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra
Modi is not far behind in the list as he claimed the seventh position on the
list.
Breaking barriers yet again, Indian-American
Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris was the only woman on the top 10 most tweeted about people’s list and
stood at the 10th position globally.
“People continued to
utilize Twitter to publicly advocate for political change and demand
accountability from world leaders this year. Over 700 million Tweets were sent
in 2020 about elections around the world and Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Barack
Obama, Narendra Modi and Kamala Harris were among the most Tweeted-about global
figures,” read a blog post by Tracy McGraw, Global Head of Consumer
Communications for Twitter.

As the pandemic tumbled our
world upside down, it came as no surprise that #COVID19 was the most popular
hashtag used by people this year with 400 million tweets.
Nearly 68 million people have
been infected by the virus on a global scale, claiming the lives of 1.55
million people.
Following the lead of the most
basic prevention measure, #StayHome was the third-most widely used hashtag, the
blog post read.
The brutal killing of George
Floyd that sparked protests against police brutality in the US and all across
the globe did not go unnoticed on Twitter as #BlackLivesMatter emerged as the
second-most tweeted hashtag.
“The world mobilized
and amplified the need for equality and social justice following the death of
George Floyd, who was the third most-Tweeted-about person globally,” the
blog post read. Floyd is the third-most tweeted about person on Twitter in the
year 2020.
The list also names former
US President Barack Obama, rapper Kanye West and late basketball legend Kobe
Bryant.
