The full
moon of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month is called Sharad Purnima and Goddess
Lakshmi is worshiped on this day. 
According to Hindu beliefs, on the night of Sharad Purnima, the moon is
full of sixteen kalas and the rays coming from the moon are like nectar.

worshiping Goddess Lakshmi on the night of Sharad, the mother is happy and
showers blessings on her devotees. 
Fasting (Sharad Purnima Vrat) is also done on this day and it is said
that by observing the fast, Maa Laxmi Puja showers wealth and grains in the
house and gives the boon of happiness and peace.

 This year the festival of Sharad Purnima  is being celebrated on 19 October.  Due to the difference in Panchang, this year
this festival will be celebrated for two days. 
According to the Hindu calendar, the full moon date will start at 7:03
pm and will end on October 20 at 8.20 pm.

 The fast is kept on the day of Sharad Purnima.  On this day, wake up in the morning and take
a bath and take a vow of fast by wearing clean clothes.  Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped on this day and
it is said that by worshiping according to the law, the mother is pleased and
showers blessings on her devotees.  Offer
Gandha, Akshat, Tambul, Deep, Flowers, Incense, Supari and Dakshina during the
worship.  Make kheer with cow’s milk at
night and offer it to God at midnight.

 Keep a vessel full of kheer in the moonlight
at night and take it on the second day. 
It is said that nectar showers from the moon on the day of Sharad
Purnima.

 Some special things should be kept in mind
during Sharad Purnima fast.  On this day,
fasting is kept by consuming fruits and water. 
Satvik food is taken in the evening. 
Black colored clothes should not be worn in worship on this day.  It is believed that it is auspicious to wear
white colored clothes for Sharad Purnima.
