Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw showcased a display of batting masterclass as he notched his second fifty of the season against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday. Shaw’s innings, which saw him bring up the fastest fifty of the season, helped his side accumulate the highest powerplay score this season – 67 without loss in six overs.

Chasing a target of 155, Delhi and Shaw got off to a flying start in the very first over, by Shivam Mavi, with the diminutive batsman smashing six consecutive fours. The over started with a wide ball, with the Mumbai-born batsman finding the fence off every legal delivery thereafter.

That over, having conceded 25 runs, ended up being the third-most expensive first over in the history of the tournament, after the 27 and 25-run overs bowled by Abu Nechim vs RCB in 2011 and Harbhajan Singh vs KKR in 2013 respectively.

Shaw scored four more boundaries, and smashed a maximum, thereafter as he brought up his ninth IPL fifty in record time.

Earlier, KKR’s batting woes continued with the Delhi Capitals restricting the Eoin Morgan-led side to a meager 154-run total.  Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav took two wickets each, with Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis also taking one each.

The Capitals are currently third on the points table, having won four of their six matches so far.
