The Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to dismiss the Kolkata Knight Riders to 128 runs in the first innings at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga picked four wickets for 20 runs and pacer Harshal Patel came back with 11/4. 

Amoung the many joyful moments for the RCB in the first innings, David Willey’s catch stands out. The Englishman took a brilliant one to dismiss KKR’s Nitish Rana.

It was the last ball of the powerplay when Rana decided to slog a hard length 140 kmph delivery by Akash Deep. However, the ball went high and was landing beteween Willey and Shahbaz at deep square. The former kept his eyes on the ball, ran backwards and managed to receive it with both hands. 

Rana was dismissed for 10 runs off five balls with the help of a four and maximum.

Akash Deep finished with figures of 3/45, Harshal Patel 2/11 and Mohammed Siraj 1/25 after RCB opted to bowl after winning the toss. David Willey bowled two overs and gave away seven runs.

KKR lost six wickets for 57 runs to slip from 44 for 3 to 101 for 9 in 14.3 overs. Andre Russell was the highest scorer for KKR with a 18-ball 25, while Umesh Yadav (18) and Varun Chakravarthy (10) added 27 runs for the last wicket, the highest partnership for KKR, to provide some respectability to the total.

Big-hitting West Indies all-rounder Russell smashed three sixes and a four in his 18-ball 25 before edging Harshal Patel to Dinesh Karthik.

“I am very happy to wear this (purple) cap. These kind of wickets are very good, straight boundaries are very small, I bowled my normal lengths today and tried to bowl dot balls and it worked well. (The wicket he enjoyed the most) Shreyas Iyer wicket. (On his couple of misfields) These things happen, dew also came in, very hard to field,” Hasaranga said after the first innings.
