Union Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani introduced India’s first-ever cotton brand and logo on World Cotton Day 2020 on October 7, 2020. Since then, India’s finest cotton would be referred to throughout the international cotton trade as “Kasturi Cotton”. As a brand, Kasturi Cotton would stand for purity, lustrousness, originality, and Indianness.
“Cotton is one of India’s most important commercial commodities, and it supports livelihood for roughly 6 million cotton farmers,” Smriti Irani said. India is the world’s second-largest cotton producer and consumer. Every year, India produces around 6 million tons of cotton, accounting for approximately 23% of global cotton production. India accounts for about 51% of global organic cotton output, demonstrating the country’s commitment to sustainability.
