Harnaaz Sandhu, crowned Miss Universe two days ago, is now a member of the million club on Instagram. Her entry was spectacular, with her handle on the social media platform acquiring thousands of followers within seconds of her being crowned. The 21-year-old, best known as a model with 315K followers on Instagram till earlier this week, had 1.9 million of them at the time of writing this. 

Only two other Indians have bagged  the prestigious Miss Universe title in 70 years. Actor Sushmita Sen was the first Indian to bring it home in 1994 and she was succeeded by actor Lara Dutta Bhupathi in the year 2000.

The crown has been brought home again after 21 years, making it a pretty monumental achievement. Harnaaz was congratulated by former Miss Universes and Miss Worlds, including Priyanka Chopra, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta Bhupathi, Andrea Meza, and many others from the film and modelling fraternity.

Lara further added that it must have been some work of destiny, with Harnaaz being born in the same year as her crowning.

Sushmita on the other hand wrote “Yeh baat. Har Hindustani ki Naaz ” and thanked Harnaaz for finally bringing home the title after all these years. She wrote a paragraph and extended her best wishes to Harnaaz’s mother.

The 21-year-old 2021 Miss Universe hails from Chandigarh. In a viral video, she was seen dancing happily in her native village along with Punjabi folk dancers. She is seen in a glorious crown, bright pink traditional suit ensemble and with a huge smile on her face.

Lots of wishes poured in for Harnaaz moments after she was crowned. She now has multiple fan accounts being run by her proud fans. The accounts post updates, snippets and behind the scenes details of the former Punjabi model’s life.
