The likelihood of Pakistan making desperate attempts in order
to divert attention from its internal issues might be increasing in winter,
reported PTI.

Lieutenant General B S Raju, handling the XV Corps of the
Indian Army which supervises patrol along the LoC as well as tackling militancy
in the hinterland, stated that there are continued reports regarding 200-250
militants in different launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) waiting
for a chance to infiltrate the border.

“They will try to exploit bad weather to infiltrate,
but the security forces are focusing on both direct infiltration into Kashmir
through the LoC and those attempted through the south of Pir Panjal. The
deployment on the LoC is robust and supported by layers of surveillance
devices,” PTI quoted the Lt Gen as saying.

Further informing that he was pleased with the peaceful manner
in which the recently completed DDC polls were held in the valley, Raju noted
it as a sign of the population partaking in the grassroots level of democracy in
Jammu-Kashmir, hoping for both the people as well as the elected representatives
to play their parts in order to bring about ‘developmental activity’.

According to Raju, in order to create a diversion in “the
attention of its people from internal issues, Pakistan may like to escalate
tensions along the border”, referring probably to the recent political
atmosphere in the neighbouring state wherein the Imran Khan government has been
threatened by 11 political parties, namely ‘Pakistan Democratic Movement’, to
resign by January 31, 2021.
