As the battle for West Bengal heats up, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee are trading barbs. PM Modi has upped his rally-addressing game, spearheading his party’s campaign in the ongoing Assembly polls.

In his rally in West Bengal’s South 24 Paraganas, Sonarpur, PM Modi said: “Didi, you should trust the people of Bengal. The people of Bengal have given their verdict. It is decided that you will have to leave Nabanna with your Taka Maar Company (TMC).”

“Some people in TMC had decided to field Mamata Didi from another seat but some intelligent persons told her that it would be her second biggest mistake. Some people told her that if she would lose both seats, it will become very difficult for TMC to function as a party,” ANI quoted Modi as saying.

Currently, the BJP is pulling out all the stops to oust Banerjee from the government in West Bengal and to retain power in Assam.

Continuing his attack on the Trinamool Congress supremo, Modi  said: “Didi’s party says that she will contest from Varanasi, which makes two things clear — that she has accepted her defeat in Bengal and that Didi has started a search for her space outside Bengal.”

Earlier, in a separate rally, CM Banerjee said that the BJP wants to “end Bengal, its language and its culture…I request to all the minority brothers and sisters not to allow their vote division.”

Phase 2 voting in West Bengal was conducted on April 1. A total of 86.11% voter turnout was recorded. The counting of votes will be held on May 2.
