A radio jockey named RJ Suchitra has deleted a video about the recent custodial deaths in Tamil Nadu’s Tuticorin, following orders from Tamil Nadu police.

Suchitra’s video had a ‘chilling’ account about the custodial deaths of father-son duo and had garnered millions of view. She is working as an RJ at Radio Mirchi, Chennai.

The Tuticorin custodial deaths case is taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In a tweet, she said, “The CB-CID (Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department) called. And threatened arrest for spreading fake news with intent to cause anarchy. Deleted the video under the advise of my lawyer who said they are definitely capable of doing it. Please watch this case people – there’s a lot of foul play being employed.”

In her video, she had described graphic details about the custodial torture of father son J Jayaraj and Beniks Immanuel. When asked about the source for her video, she told NDTV that she had found it from the FIR filed by the victims’ family.

In a social media statement, CB-CID said, “In this video, she falsely exaggerated and sensationalised the chain of events and her allegations seems to be as figment of imagination and is not backed up by any proof. The video is promoting hatred against the police. Ms Suchitra has taken down these falsified contents on it being flagged to her.”

Mobile shop owners J Jayaraj, 59, and Bennicks Immanuel, 31 were arrested on June 19 for keeping their shops open beyond the lockdown curfew of 8 pm and allegedly tortured by the police throughout the night. Bennicks died on June 22 and his father died the following day.
