Singer Bhupinder Singh died at a hospital in Mumbai on Monday night, his wife Mitali Singh said. He was 82.
“He passed away on Monday and the funeral will be held mostly on Tuesday. He had a colon ailment,” his wife told The Indian Express.
He was admitted to Criticare Asia hospital in Andheri, where he paased away.
Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of Criticare Asia hospital, said in a statement, “Bhupinderji was admitted ten days back to our hospital. He had an infection. We had strong suspicion that he had Colon ailment and we were doing investigations. In the same time, he got Covid-19. His condition worsened on Monday morning and we had to put him on a ventilator. He got a cardiac arrest and passed away at 7:45 pm.”

The legendary singer is best remembered for his songs in films like ‘Mausam’, ‘Satte Pe Satta’, ‘Dooriyan’ and many more.
Some of his famous songs include ‘Hoke Majboor Mujhe, Usne Bulaya Hoga’, ‘Dil Dhoondhta Hai’ and ‘Duki Pe Duki Ho Ya Satte Pe Satta.’

Following his death, several people paid tributes on social media.
“In memoriam #BhupinderSingh ji. A with a voice from a gentler time. Tragically poetic that he should follow Lataji, as he did so beautifully in the song #NaamGumJaayega composed by #RDBurman and written by Gulzarsaab. Unki awaaz hi pehchaan hai, aur hamesha yaad rahegi,” Vishal Dadlani tweeted.
Author Gautam Chintamani tweeted, “To call Bhupinder Singh a fine signer would be an understatement. He could take the simplest of words and infuse such life that everything became lyrical. A great bassist, Bhupinder ji’s words and music shall remain a treasure for generations. Alvida Bhupinder Ji.”
