Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a gift from Afghanistan and he called it a ‘wonderful gesture’. The Prime Minister took to Twitter to thank Afghan artist Hamdullah Arbab, who had posted a portrait of him on Wednesday.
“Tashakkur, brother @Arbab911! This is a wonderful gesture, for which I am honoured. Afghan-Hind dosti Zindabaad!” the PM wrote. “Long live Afghan-Indian friendship!” Arbab had written while sharing a picture of his artwork.

India and Afghanistan share a very warm relationship and on Tuesday the two nations signed an MoU for building a dam to supply water to Kabul city. The dam, Shahtoot dam, is the second major dam being built by India in Afghanistan, after the Friendship Dam or Salma dam, inaugurated by Modi and Ghani in June 2016.

After the pact was signed, the external affairs ministry said, the MoU on the dam reflects “India’s strong and long-term commitment towards the socio-economic development of Afghanistan and the enduring partnership between our two countries.”
In a sign of cordial ties between the two countries, India shipped 5,00,000 doses of its COVID-19 vaccine to Afghanistan, becoming the first country to provide Kabul with the vaccine
The vaccination drive In Afghanistan, with Bharat Biotech’s Covishield vaccine, will be rolled out from next week, after securing certification from the World Health Organization.
