India had an incredible day at the Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday, clinching 2 silvers and a bronze, which was put on hold. The day began with Bhavinaben Patel securing a historic silver in table tennis to give India its first medal in Paralympics. Although she lost to China’s world number one paddler Zhou Ying in the gold medal match on Sunday, Patel had an incredible road to the final during which she defeated many higher-ranked opponents.
Nishad Kumar won a silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event on Sunday. Kumar cleared 2.06m to win the silver and set an Asian record. Unfortunately, the celebrations of a Super Sunday were somewhat muted after discus thrower Vinod Kumar‘s bronze-winning result was put on hold due to a protest over his disability classification.
“Results of this event are currently under review due to classification observation in competition. The Victory Ceremony has been postponed to the evening session of 30th August,” read a statement from the Games organisers.
