The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday released the list of its 27 candidates for phase 3 and 38 candidates for phase 4 for the upcoming eight-phase West Bengal Assembly polls. BJP national general secretary Arun Singh made the announcement on Sunday, reported news agency ANI.

Among the notable candidates was Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who’ll contest from the Tollygung Assembly seat. A number of sitting BJP MPs will also contest the upcoming polls.

Actor-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee, who is the MP for Hooghly, will contest from Chunchura. Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Das Gupta Lok Sabha MP Nisith Pramanik will contest from Tarakeswar and Dinhata, respectively.

Economist Ashok Lahiri, who’s currently serving as a member of the 15th Finance Commission, will contest from Alipurduar.

Minister in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet-turned BJP member, Rajib Banerjee will contest from Domjur.

Sitting-MLA Rabindranath Bhattacharya will contest from Singur and actor Yash Das Gupta from Chanditala, Singh announced.

Assembly polls in West Bengal are scheduled from March 27 to April 29. Votes will be counted on May 2.
