US civil rights activist Rev Jesse Jackson and Congressman Raja
Krishnamoorthi, on Thursday, urged President Joe Biden to allocate 60 million more COVID-19 doses for COVID-stricken India, promising meanwhile that help was
on its way, reported news agency ANI.

Biden had earlier announced a total of 80 million vaccine
doses to be sent to India.

“Not only are they (India) our neighbour in democracy and ally,
the disease is airborne. We can help ourselves and the world when we help to
ameliorate the virus”, ANI quoted Jackson as saying.

Alarmed from the steeply rising COVID-numbers in India,
Jackson further recognised the need for sending vaccine doses to the country.

“… The nation has already surpassed 100,000,000 vaccine
doses. However, as this outbreak spreads, it is imperative for President Biden
and the United States to prevent the continued loss of life”, he was further
quoted as saying.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who is reportedly also a
part of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, said he cared deeply
about the issue, adding that he was “going to push very hard” for it.

Despite daily COVID-19 numbers coming down in India in the
last few days, the number of COVID-19 induced deaths has increased on a daily
basis. As of May 19, Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Delhi were among
the states/UTs to have recorded significant increase in number of daily deaths.
