Rishabh Pant scored his first Test century on home soil in the fourth and final Test against England in Ahmedabad on Friday to send Indian cricket fans across the world into euphoria. To celebrate and applaud the young southpaw, skipper Virat Kohli got off his seat and rushed to the balcony, joining his teammates to applaud for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Pant and Washington Sundar added 113 runs to the scoreboard for the seventh wicket and the partnership helped India reach 294, giving the team a healthy lead of 89 runs at the end of the day’s play.

Pant seemed relieved to reach his first Test 100 at home. He showed a certain maturity in his game today. He not only tackled the situation with patience but also attacked according to his instincts that lead him to his century.

On reaching his 100, he also thanked the almighty before raising his hand in the quintessential gesture. He slog-swept England’s captain Joe Root for the six that got him the century. He scored 101 off 118 balls, including 13 boundaries and two sixes.
