Popular influencer and copywriter Freddy Birdy recently made headlines for what was interpreted as an indirect dig at Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone‘s clothes from promotional events.
Freddy had written in the Instagram post, “Newton’s Law Of Bollywood – The clothes will get tinier as Gehraiyaan release date approaches.”
Internet users and fans of the actor reacted sharply to the post, calling it ‘sexist’ and disrespectful. Padukone hit back with an Instagram story that said, “Scientists say the universe is made of protons, neutrons and electrons. They forgot to mention morons.”

But who exactly is Freddy Birdy?
Freddy is a known name in the advertising industry. He has reportedly received more “Copywriter of the year” awards than any other copywriter in Indian advertising.
He currently co-owns an advertising agency based in New Delhi. He is also a bar and restaurant designer and a part of Architectural Digest magazine’s prestigious AD100, a collection of India’s best architects and interior designers. The bars he has designed are The Kimono Club, Whisky Samba, The Wine Company, Bohca and The Wine Rack, according to his description in Homegrown, an online publication.

Originally from Mumbai, Freddy is a painter. In the words of American artist and gallerist Peter Nagy, “Through the adroit use of font styles, graphic devices, juxtapositions of scale and accompanying pictures, his works present both prose and poetry as visual art, something to read but also something to experience. His subjects are the foibles of romance, the longing for both self-confidence and status through a variety of relationships, and the confluence of artistic strategies and mass-marketing dialogues.”

Freddy’s idiosyncratic artwork, he wrote, falls in a long history of language-based paintings that characterize Modernism. “Mr Birdy posits painting as a type of stand-up comedy,” Nagy had said.
Apart from his professional interests in advertising and painting, Freddy runs a popular Instagram page and is followed by several celebrities including Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Kapoor, and others.
