Maria Sakkari is a Greek tennis player, who predominantly plays in the singles category. She began her career in the senior circuit in 2015. She reached a career-high ranking of 18 in May 2021. She has won seven ITF titles.
Sakkari’s best run in a Grand Slam came in the 2021 French Open when she reached the semifinals on Wednesday after beating the defending champion, Iga Swiatek. She also reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and US Open in 2020, and the third round of the Wimbledon in 2017 and 2019, which are her highest achievements in the respective Grand Slams. Sakkari won the WTA tournament in Rabat 2019. She also won the 2019 Morocco Open.

Sakkari was born on July 25, 1995, in Athens. Her mother Angeliki Kanellopoulou was also a tennis player, who was in the top-50 world rankings. She began playing tennis at the age of six. She moved to Barcelona at the age of 18. She said that her favourite surfaces to play tennis are hard and clay courts. She currently resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Her tennis idols are Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams and Roger Federer. She is known for an all-court style of play with aggressive groundstrokes and serves.
