Suresh Rana, the BJP‘s candidate in the 2022 Assembly Elections from Thana Bhawan in the Shamli district, is the cane minister under Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh. His claim to fame in the national political discourse was with his involvement in the 2015 Muzaffarnagar riots.

During the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, a bailable warrant was issued against Rana for breaking prohibitory orders and inciting communal conflict. Rana was accused of “offences under the Indian Penal Code sections 188 (violating prohibitory orders), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging his duty) and 341 (wrongful restraint).It is alleged that [he] participated in a Nadala Mador panchayat meeting and violated prohibitory orders and incited violence through [his] speeches on August 30, 2013.”
Rana surrendered to a Muzzafarnagar court in December 2015 after the court issued a bailable warrant against him.

Rana was charged with hate speech on January 30, 2017, after declaring that if he won the 2017 Assembly elections, he would impose a curfew on Kairana, Deoband, and Moradabad. The next day, he was charged with breaking election conduct for erecting a foundation stone bearing his name on a freshly constructed road in Goherpur village, Shamli district.
The two- time (2012,2017) MLA is a political science graduate as per his election affidavit.
He has 3 criminal cases against him.
Agriculturalist by profession, he has declared Rs 81,76,203 worth of agricultural land as immovable assets, and Rs 11,00,000 worth of non-agricultural land.
