Buying
gold is a popular custom on Akshaya Tritiya. Traditional beliefs hold that
purchasing gold on Akshaya Tritiya delivers great fortune and prosperity to the
family, as well as the likelihood of future wealth, and rightly so. After all,
‘Akshaya’ means ‘never ending’ and ‘Tritiya’ means the third lunar day of the
Indian month ‘Vaishakha’.
But
what makes buying gold on Akshaya Tritiya so special?
India
is a land of festivals, and Akshaya Tritiya is one among them. However, Akshaya
Tritiya is unique in a way. Indians have a very strong faith in ‘muhurat’,
which means an auspicious time to begin something good. Be it a wedding, a
naming ceremony, a housewarming, an inauguration, a festival ‘puja’, or buying
something big like a house or land, there is a ‘muhurat’ for everything.

But
Akshaya Tritiya is one such occasion which is free of any evil and negates the
need for a ‘muhurat’. And that is what makes it so distinct from all the other
festivals in India.
Vedic
astrologers believe Akshaya Tritiya to be an auspicious day since it is free of
all negativities. The three lunar days of ‘Yugadi’, ‘Akshaya Tritiya’, and
‘Vijay Dashami’, according to Hindu Astrology, do not require any ‘muhurat’ to
begin or finish any good work since they are devoid of any bad influences.

products, also invites Goddess Lakshmi, the embodiment of wealth and
prosperity) into one’s home. On this day, Hindu followers seek goddess
Lakshmi’s blessings and serve her with new precious metals.
