The love for Wimbledon pulled Venus Williams back to the tennis court as she paired with Jamie Murray in a double’s match. The American Tennis legend came back to court after almost a year. Venus Williams, in pairing with the two time Wimbledon mixed-double’s winner Jamie Murray, beat Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.

This was the very first time in 2022 that the world got a sight of Venus Williams on the court. The seven-time grand slam champion had no plan to participate in this year’s Wimbledon. She ‘got inspired’ to make a comeback after she saw her younger sister Serena compete at the Wimbledon earlier this week. ‘’I had no plan to play, seeing the grass got me excited. I asked Murray to play at the last minute. I am so happy it happened this way, I was inspired by Serena.’’ Said the 42-year-old after the match

Venus had opted out of the recently concluded French Open. ‘’ I was there at the French Open. It is such a beautiful tournament, but my heart didn’t beat the same way.’’ Said the former French open mixed- double’s title winner. According to Venus it was an 11th hour decision to team with Jamie Murray, the 36-year-old seven-time grand slam doubles champion. The pair of Venus William and Jamie Murray will face the British pair of Alicia Barnett and Jonny O’Mara in the second round on Sunday.

Venus Williams had made her last professional appearance in the Chicago Open in August last year. She was defeated by the Taiwanese professional Su-wei Hasie in the first round of the tournament. This comeback victory of Venus Williams has opened a new door to fans’ speculations about Williams’ resurgence. She had won her last Wimbledon Grand slams mixed-doubles in 2016.
