Matchday five
of the Premier League concluded with Chelsea’s statement 3-0 win away at Tottenham
Hotspur
on Sunday, inflicting further misery on the North Londoners on an already
somber day following the death of club icon Jimmy Greaves. The win sent Chelsea
top of the table, where they jointly-lead the league with Liverpool and Manchester United.

Here are
the talking points from the Premier League’s Matchday 5:

No stopping Chelsea!

Thomas
Tuchel
has turned Chelsea into a ruthless winning machine. The Blues turned Sunday’s game
at Spurs on its head with a customary dominant performance in the second half. After riding
the threat in the first half, when they did not have much joy themselves, Tuchel’s
half-time team talk worked like a charm as his side overwhelmed the hosts after
the break to score three goals and take three points.

Three-horse title race!

While Chelsea were the weekend’s big winners to keep up in the title race, Liverpool
set the pace on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace. Sadio Mane became the first-ever player to score in nine consecutive Premier League games against the same opponents.

Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard scored a last-gasp stunner to seal yet another comeback win for Manchester United away at West Ham, the club which revived his career in the second half of last season.

All three sides are currently on 13 points each – four wins and a draw from five games – with a thrilling title race awaiting this season.

Arsenal continue winning ways

Arsenal avoided a potential banana peel in the form of Burnley at home, with Martin Odegaard’s sumptous free kick delivering all three points for the Gunners as a young defensive line maintained a second consecutive clean sheet. Next up for them – the small matter of a North London derby at home.

Manchester City falter

Pep Guardiola called for fans to populate the Etihad Stadium for the weekend’s game against Southampton. But the Citizens were let down by their team, which registered just one shot on target as they were held to a goalless draw by the Saints, with the champions now three points off the leaders.

Brighton the surprise package

Stop the count, Brighton fans. We may be may be just five games into the season, but when will the humble Seagulls ever see themselves in a Champions League spot again? Graham Potter has guided Brighton to four wins from five games, with the latest one a 2-1 victory against Brendon Rodger’s Leicester City.
