LeBron James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 38,387 career points on the evening of Tuesday, February 7, while the Los Angeles Lakers narrowly lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in their home game at the Crypto.com Arena. James was given the game ball by Abdul-Jabbar, who was in the arena, and NBA commissioner Adam Silver as they entered the floor.

James received congratulations from a wide range of famous people after the momentous event, including Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Kevin Durant, and Drake. The majority of people, who thought Drake’s video greeting for the NBA player to be quite “cringe,” did not like it, though.

Drake thanked the NBA player for accomplishing the extraordinary feat by posting a video of himself on social media. The rapper appears in the video holding a basketball and claiming to be in James’ hometown of Akron, Ohio while donning an orange sweatshirt. A basketball court is visible in the distance. Drake says at the beginning of the 40-second film, “LeBron, what a legendary night in NBA history. You’re breaking the all-time scoring record. And to honor that I had to come back to the place that it all started: Akron, Ohio.”

“Every journey has a beginning, and tonight is no different, he continues”. As the greenscreen projection of the court is lowered, the background changes. It gets replaced by a bunch of females having a good time in a club. Drake continues, “I lied, I lied to you. Um, I’m actually still at the club in Miami, but definitely, all the girls say congrats, alright, girls.” After that, he closes the video by congratulating his brother.
